Course Description
This class will be a little different from what you are used to. Flying class requires no spells or book study, and you will probably never receive homework. Also, unlike the traditional classes, members of all years may sign up for flying class(but see below).
1st Years: First years will learn the basics of flying. Getting on the broom, getting off the broom without falling, speed control, etc. Broom care will also be taught, but the majority of the class will be spent in the air. Students who are ahead of their class may ask to be put in along with the second years, as their schedule allows. All brooms used in this class will have speed-hampering charms put on them to keep students from whizzing about the field out of control.
2nd Years: Second years will learn some slightly more advanced maneuvering. There are fewer safety precautions in this class than in the first year class(no speed limit on the brooms). Students who are ahead of their class may ask to be put in the third year class, as their schedule allows. You will also learn basic Quidditch maneuvers during this year.
3rd Years: This year, students are allowed to try out for the Quidditch team. At this point, flying class will turn into more of a gym class. Quidditch games will be played almost every session. As with other classes, students who are ahead of their class may ask to be moved to the fourth year class, as their schedule allows.
4th Years: In this class, students will be expected to up their game in Quidditch. Races will also be held occasionally. In this year, students will learn more advanced flying maneuvers, and will be expected to be able to put together a strategy in Quidditch. Students who are ahead of their class may ask to be moved to the fifth year class, as their schedule allows.
5th Years: In this class, we will begin to introduce some of the lesser-known broomstick sports, namely Shuntbumps and Swivenhodge, in addition to playing Quidditch. We will also begin to explore the ancient games of Queerditch, Kwidditch, and Cuaditch. Students who are ahead of their class may ask to be moved to the sixth year class, as their schedule allows.
6th Years: In this year, students will play the occasional game of Stitchstock in addition to Quidditch(and the sports mentioned above). They will also be introduced to the making of brooms. Students who are ahead of their class may ask to be moved to the seventh year class, as their schedule allows.
7th Years: During this year, students will be given largely free reign over their classes. Closer to the end of the year, they will be given the option of creating their own broomstick. Students who are looking for a career in Quidditch can ask for assistance in contacting their team of choice, polishing their game, and preparing for try-outs.
- - -
Quidditch games for all years will be held every other weekend with the exception of exam weeks. If any student wants a one-on-one class, they have only to ask.
Expectations
Students of all years are expected to...
- Attend every class(barring illness or injury).
- Participate fully in class.
- Be good sports(losing a game is not cause for hexing, jinxing, cursing, etc)
- Help other students when asked.
- Have fun. After all, that is the whole point of this class, really.
- Not lord it over their classmates if they happen to be talented flyers. (Over-inflated egos will be promptly punctured.)
